Final Competition Overview

Only seniors who successfully pass the C-CAP Preliminary Competition are eligible to go on to the C-CAP Cooking Competition for Scholarships. Download Competition Application Materials.

Students will be asked to:

  • Prepare Poulet Chasseur avec Pommes de Terre Château (Hunter’s Chicken with Turned, Sautéed Potatoes) & Crêpes à la Crème Pâtissière avec une Sauce au Chocolat (Dessert Crêpes with Pastry Cream and Chocolate Sauce) within a 2-hour time limit. Recipes must be memorized and notes are not allowed. (Recipes are included in the application packet)
  • Clean his or her work area and equipment during and following the competition.

Students will be judged on:

  • Knife skills - accuracy and technique
  • Taste, appearance and preparation of recipes
  • Knowledge and execution of safe and sanitary kitchen procedures
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly station throughout the competition
  • Application materials, including personal essay, letters of recommendation, and academic record
  • Personal interview
  • Poise and confidence in the kitchen, and the ability to handle routine pressure and maintain a positive attitude

Students are responsible for bringing:

  • All equipment necessary to prepare the recipes
  • Chicken stock and chicken glaze for the Poulet Chasseur (recipe is included in the application packet).

Please note:

  • All other food products will be provided at the host site.
  • No additional garnishes are allowed.

Dress code:

  • White chef’s jacket or apron
  • Chef pants or loose-fitting black pants
  • Rubber-soled, non-skid shoes
  • Neat hair, pulled back
  • Minimal make-up
  • Short, clean nails, no polish
  • No jewelry (rings, earrings, tongue studs)
  • Chef hats are not necessary, though welcomed
  • No chewing gum

To prepare, students should:

  • Practice, practice, practice!
  • Be sure to practice within the 2-hour time limit. Getting used to the time limit is crucial in preparing for this competition.
  • Stay after school, if possible, or practice at home.
  • Ask your local C-CAP coordinator if a competition prep class has been arranged.

Scholarship awards

Please note that some scholarships awarded by C-CAP require a minimum GPA. C-CAP reserves the right to distribute scholarships as deemed appropriate. Your local C-CAP coordinator will notify you about the details of the awards ceremony in your city.
